Latest Updates from Our Project:

Twain - Updates, Retroactive Backer Scholarship, & Group Guide
over 3 years ago – Wed, Jul 29, 2020 at 11:06:26 PM

Hi everyone!

I apologize most sincerely for not sending any messages or updates the past few months.  I even more deeply appreciate the love and patience many of you have shared, either explicitly or tacitly, while we've been trying to figure out our lives during this time.

Are these days the best or worst time for a one-player larp?  ;)  Who can say?  I am curious about your answer to that.

Here is an update on all points!

1 - RETROACTIVE BACKER SCHOLARSHIPS

The most important one:  If the events of the past few months have put you in a different financial situation than when you backed the game, please drop me a line to get a retroactive scholarship.

You don't need to do anything other than send a message to let me know that you need it, and you'll keep your game(s).  I'll fulfill as many of these as possible-- most on a first-come first serve basis, but I'll leave a pool open for those with especial need even if you're not able to reply immediately.

2 - GROUP GUIDE

We were putting the finishing touches on the PDF Group Guide when Covid hit.  Group play was originally designed to be a quintessentially live experience.  I'm in process now of figuring out how to convert it to an online-friendly experience, which is actually pretty involved because of safety and intimacy concerns.  The new version will be sent out by September if not before.

3 - LARGE PRINT

A comprehensive large print update will be coming shortly!

4 - SHIPPING

All games should have been received months ago.  If for whatever reason you haven't gotten yours, please let me know!

Thank you all for your support and care.

Warmest wishes,

J

Twain Printing & Shipping Update
about 4 years ago – Tue, Jan 28, 2020 at 02:14:15 PM

Happy new year, all wonderful Twain backers!  Here are some updates!

1)  All Standard copies have shipped, so US-based backers should have them in hand and international backers shortly if not already.  If you haven't gotten yours within the next week or so, please let me know!

Additionally, if you play the game and would like to share your story with me, I would love to hear it.  For some it's quite private, and others want to talk about it, and both are totally great ways to use the game.  Please don't hesitate to message me via KS or Fb.

2)  Regretfully, in the past two months, I was taken out by an unexpected personal health matter and two separate family ones.  I must profoundly apologize to all of you that everything else is running about 1-2 months behind.  I know you put your support in this game and project, and want you to have the absolute best experience with it.

If you were counting on having your copy earlier than that, please do message me and I will see what we can do!

a - Deluxe printing is delayed about 6 weeks, so the new expected date to receive deluxe orders is mid/latter March.  This is entirely on me-- our publisher, Heart of the Deernicorn, has been absolutely fabulous dealing with my timeline adjustments and delays and I absolutely could not do it without them.  (There are about 6 different vendors involved because of all the different pieces.)

b - Group PDFs should be sent in the next week or two.

c - Large print is looking at a late March shipping date, hopefully sooner.  Again, I know we originally promised December for this one, so if you need something earlier please let me know and we'll work with you!

Thanks so much everyone!  I can't wait to hear your stories.

Twain standard books are shipping imminently! (Fill out your surveys by Wed)
over 4 years ago – Mon, Dec 30, 2019 at 09:44:19 PM

Hi everyone!  The books have arrived to the US and are at the distributor, IPR.  We just completed the quality check, so everything is set and ready to ship out!

If you ordered any Standard copies and haven't filled out your survey yet, please do so by the end of Jan 1st to receive your book with the first shipment pass.

Happy New Year!

Twain - Survey & Shipping Update!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Dec 18, 2019 at 10:59:05 PM

Hello wonderful backers!  It's been a month since our campaign completed!  Here are all the updates:

1 - SURVEYS

Please expect to receive a survey via Backerkit for your shipping info shortly over the next week!

2 - DESIGN

Because of being so overfunded, we were able to make a few updates to the art on the Standard edition and materials on the Deluxe edition!

3 - WHEN WILL MY STANDARD EDITION ARRIVE?

The short version is shortly, but must sincerely apologize that it'll miss the holidays by just a hair.

The long version is: you know when I said, "Oh, everything is complete, nothing could go wrong with printing"?  I am learning the hubris of these words when it comes to Kickstarter.  Apparently, our printer's case bound printing machine in the US physically broke, and they have to print the books in the UK and ship them to the US.  As a result, we are a few weeks behind in printing on Standard Edition.

The books are now en route and due to arrive at distribution this week, where we'll turn them around to you promptly.

4 - WHEN WILL MY LARGE PRINT ARRIVE?

A few design delays on Large Print, meaning that these will ship alongside Deluxe Editions in Jan/Feb.

5  - WHEN WILL MY DELUXE EDITION ARRIVE?

Deluxe Editions are made with a different printer (Heart of the Deernicorn) and as a result don't have changes!  They will also not be able to make the year end, but are on track to arrive in Jan/Feb of 2020.

---

Thank you so much for your support, everyone!  Expect a survey very soon, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Warm wishes,

J

danceahappyMore love for Twain!

JASON MORNINGSTAR

J Li has made a number of challenging, profound games in the past, and her latest, Twain, continues that pattern. It's a single-player larp about dichotomy - the difference between who you were and who you are, between what is and what might have been. It's immersive and difficult and beautiful. As much care has been taken in how the experience is presented as has been with the experience itself. Twain does so many cool things - please take a moment and check it out.

@jfanli's game Twain is, among other things, a really lovely statement about what larp can be.

JEEYON SHIM

My friend @jfanli funded her stunning solitaire larp, Twain! I think we can get her EVEN FURTHER, this project is gorgeous and moving and I know a lot of people who would love it.

J and I are doing bicoastal happy dances right now. Thanks for all your support!
