Today's post is a literal litany of love for Twain.
First up is an interview J did with Alex Roberts in 2017 on Backstory.
Next, Raph D'Amico ha a wonderful Twitter thread documenting his experience with Twain. (He has excellent penmanship too). You can read it here.
Banana Chan (@bananachangames) says:
I’m so in love with J Li’s solo-player larp/journaling game. You play yourself, but you have an estranged twin you’re trying to get back in contact with. It’s really beautiful and you should definitely check it out on Kickstarter.
I absolutely loved Twain by J Li. The game is so simple and beautiful. When I played, my twin and I were bound by our magical powers. We were attached at the hip. Then realizing that she and I have drifted apart over the years made me feel something that few larps have ever accomplished in doing - I honestly felt like I missed her (in/out of game). Having to go to an old diner that my friends and I used to go to during college (and then finding out that IT BECAME A TOTALLY DIFFERENT RESTAURANT) was bittersweet and it seriously amped up the ennui.
If you like games that make you feel like you’re missing a part of yourself, Twain is for definitely for you.
Probably one of the only games I’ve ever experienced such sadness and bleed.

For those of you who have never played games before, this insightful journaling game by J Li will create a powerful experience for you and change your mind about what a game can be. Please consider backing this on Kickstarter for yourself or as a gift to a friend - its magical.

Every once in awhile, a game comes along that is different. That really excites you because it is unique. My friends, J Li has created (another) one of these games. It's called Twain and it's on Kickstarter for 2 more weeks.
I recommend you check it out if you, like me, enjoy quiet and solitary games, like crosswords, sudoku, puzzles, or solitaire or if you, like me, enjoy journaling and reflection.
J has combined the two to make something special. And like all of J's works, there is impeccable attention to detail and design. This game is not only transformative, but it is also gorgeous. Like Apple product design level for the special edition. Things like texture and color and negative space have been taken into account to create a game you'll love to just look at and where the design is an integral part of the experience.
Some people are like "why would I want a game I play alone?" and I'm like: do you play games on your phone alone? A solitary game is valid, and this one speaks quietly but delivers loudly. Seriously, check it out.
If you haven't already, consider adding a copy to give to a friend, or maybe a couple extra copies and the group experience pdf to take the journey together. You won't be disappointed.
